I have many vivid memories of this game. Most of which involved being frustrated at bugs... so I hope this dip into Morrowind won't devolve into frustration over the same thing. This was the first time I was ever introduced to the Elder Scrolls Series, which is a series that has affected my gaming career deeply. I feel that ALL roleplaying games should have the quests crafted as lovingly as the Elder Scrolls does it. The unfortunate truth is, however, that most aren't. Beyond that, the beautiful environments and world crafted by the Elder Scrolls teams have been amazing. You honestly feel transported to somewhere else, and are immediately immersed into this world that just.. feels REAL. One day, I sincerely hope to actually finish the game. And the next one... and the one after that. Maybe that can be next year's project.
Morrowind is an open-world single player roleplaying game developed and published by Bethesda. Technically, it's the third installment in the series, but for me it was the first. I've never gone back to play the earlier installments, although I probably should. It is a fantasy game set in an expansive world, of which the areas in this game are merely a small fraction. It was released in 2002 on both PC and console, and was immediately a hit. It won Game of the Year easily, and ended up spawning two expansion packs (Bloodmoon and Tribunal). The full game was bundled with those expansions into the Game of the Year version in 2003, and remained a high point in the RPG world until it's successor, Oblivion came out to overshadow it.
One of the things that drew me to this game is the huge range of options you have when creating a character. You can pretty much be anything you want to in this game - including a completely un-viable character. (Which also ultimately plays into my lack of success with finishing this game.) With any luck, this Monday and Tuesday will be a fun dip into a very deep pool of a game that will re-invigorate my desire to finish this game in the future.
As I mentioned in the introduction to this post, most of my memories of this game involved being near tears because something I wanted to do wasn't working. Namely, I had a lovely character that I had so many plans for... but she couldn't kill a thing. Which, needless to say, ruined that play-through. The archery was so messed up, she could barely hit the broad side of a barn. (And trust me, I tried.) However, there were good times had with this game, as well - mostly with thief characters running around just stealing everything that wasn't nailed down or heavily guarded. I hope that you all have as much fun as I hope to with this short two-day trip into the world of Tamriel.
(Will be posted after the final "play" day for this game.)
I love the Elder Scrolls Online. My first character was a tiny wood elf magica toon! I had no idea of classes and roles! Then I didn't want to kill anything! I almost quit until I discovered she could be a healer. Now I have twelve characters and most are effective for class and role, and that tiny Bosmer is my master crafter who's learning to be a decent PvP dps.
Oh that's awesome! My hubby and I play Elder Scrolls Online, too. In fact, tuesday nights starting Feb 1st on my Twitch channel, we started some new characters and are playing through the story in order, just for fun.
Oh, that's so cool! I have a guild that several Simmers are in. Let me know if you'd like an invite! I use the same name there, @CathyTea.
